The 3rd phase of the JEE MAIN entrance exam scheduled to be held in April has been postponed until further notice due to a record rise in daily Covid-19 positive cases in India. With the number of daily Covid-19 positive cases crossing the 2.65 lakh mark on Saturday 17th April, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the postponement of the April session in a public notice on Sunday 18th April. “Looking into the present situation of the Covid-19 pandemic and also taking into account the safety and well-being of the candidates and examination functionaries, it has been decided to postpone the JEE (Main) – 2021 April session,” the NTA0 said in an official statement. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ also tweeted and confirmed the same via a tweet on Twitter. The Education Minister was quoted saying – “Given the current Covid-19 situation, I have advised NTA to postpone the JEE (Main) – 2021 April session. I would like to reiterate that the safety of our students and their academic career are Education Ministry’s and my prime concerns right now”.
The dates for the April session of the JEE MAIN entrance test will be announced at least 15 days before the date of the exam.
The decision was taken after numerous requests and complaints from students & their parents regarding safety concerns with respect to conduction of the JEE MAIN exam in the midst of the second wave that is spreading through the country. The above verdict is a result of a cascading effect caused by the cancellation of 10th board exams and postponing of the 12th board exams by the CBSE board. Last Thursday, the Union Health Ministry also decided to postpone the NEET exam for PG course admissions in private & govt. run medical colleges just 3 days before the exam was supposed to be conducted.
The JEE MAIN entrance exam has been slated to be held in 4 sessions in 2021. The first session was conducted from February 23rd to February 26th 2021 and 6, 20, 978 candidates appeared for the February session of JEE MAIN. The second session was held from 16th March to 18th March 2021 and 5, 56, 248 students appeared for the March leg of the 2021 JEE MAIN entrance test. The third session was scheduled to be conducted on April 27th, 28th and 30th now stands postponed.
Candidates who have applied for the April and May sessions of JEE MAIN entrance test are advised to keep a regular check on the updates on the NTA website (www.nta.ac.in) and the JEE MAIN website (https://jeemain,nta.nic.in). Students can also practice full length or chapter wise tests on the NTA Abhyas app and are advised to utilize the time to prepare well for the JEE MAIN exam.
The Union Minister of Education has assured that health, safety and career of the students is the highest priority and the exams will be held when the situation regarding the pandemic improves enough to consider holding a public exam safely without risks.
