GHMC Issues 864 TDRs to Acquire 350 Acres of Land for Development

The civic body of Hyderabad – Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), has issued a total of 864 Transfer Development Rights (TDRs) for obtaining 350 acres of land for city development projects. The GHMC says the land owners have also been willing to give up their land in exchange for receiving TDRs instead of monetary compensation as the demand for issuing & utilization of TDRs has spiked of late.

GHMC has issued TDRs to the owners of the land parcels which have been acquired for civic facilities development. Over the last 5 years, the GHMC has acquired around 1,800 properties for widening of 89 roads in Hyderabad of which widening of 55 roads has been completed. The GHMC has previously obtained 1,100 properties for Strategic Road Development Planning (SRDP), 511 properties for general road widening of existing roads & 192 properties for construction of missing roads & slip roads.

Out of the 864 TDRs issued by GHMC, 553 TDRs are for properties acquired for road widening purposes, 128 TDRs for land acquired for Strategic Road Development Planning (SRDP) works, 49 TDRs for land that will be used to construct missing & link roads. A total of 41 properties were acquired for the purpose of nala widening work and 6 other properties were acquired for beautification of water tanks, change in FTL (Full Tank Level) & other reasons.

The areas where acquisition of property for widening of roads, construction of link roads & missing roads has been finalized are Bio-Diversity Flyover, Shilparamam Road-Under-Bridge, Rajiv Gandhi Flyover near JNTU-H, Road No. 45 Jubilee Hills, Stay Cable Bridge over Durgam Cheruvu, Underpass from Bairamalguda to Chintalkunta check post and Road-Under-Bridge at Hi-Tech City amongst other areas. The smooth processing and easy transfer of TDRs affords faster development by GHMC & HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority).
