The 2021 JEE MAIN May cycle has been postponed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in an announcement made on 4th May 2021. The May cycle of the JEE MAIN exam which was supposed to be the final session of this year’s JEE MAIN Entrance Exam has been postponed due to the persisting Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country. The May session of JEE MAIN was slated to begin on 24th May and end on 28th May. The JEE MAIN exam is the latest of the high profile competitive exams to be postponed in the country along with 10th and 12th standard exams, government recruitment exams and medical exams.
The NTA issued the following statement on Tuesday – “The JEE MAIN 2021 May session is currently scheduled on 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 May 2021. However, keeping the present situation in mind, the JEE MAIN 2021 May session is being postponed.” Union Minister for Education Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank also tweeted about the same that said “Looking at the present situation of COVID-19 and keeping students safety in mind, JEE (Main) – May 2021 session has been postponed. Students are advised to keep visiting the official website of NTA for further updates.”
The public notice issued by the NTA mentions that the May session of 2021 JEE MAIN entrance exam is also postponed after the April session was already postponed a week before it was scheduled to be held. Earlier during the beginning of the year, the NTA had announced that the JEE MAIN entrance tests will be held in 4 sessions to support the student community so that the students can write the exam according to their schedule and preferences. The first 2 sessions held in February (23rd to 26th February) and March (16th to 18th March) have already been conducted and the answer keys of the exams have also been released.
The remaining 2 sessions which were supposed to be held in the months of April (27th to 30th April) and May (24th to 28th May) have been cancelled due to the worsening situation in the country due to the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic sweeping through the country like wildfire. More than 6.2 lakh and 5.56 lakh students appeared for the February and March sessions of JEE MAIN exam respectively. The public notice issued by the NTA mentions “The rescheduling of the April & May sessions will be done subsequently” and the registrations for the May session will also be announced at a later stage. Students appearing for the May session can expect to be notified of the exam dates at least 15 days before the new exam dates.
The candidates are advised by the NTA to keep visiting the NTA website ( www.nta.ac.in ) and the JEE MAIN website ( jeemain.nta.ac.in ) for updates on the new schedule and revised dates.
The Union Ministry of Education has directed all Higher Education boards and educational institutions to postpone any and all exams scheduled to be conducted in the month of May due to the risks of conducting the exam during an ongoing pandemic.
